The MISSION of the Bach Society of Minnesota
….is to build a diverse community with a passion for performing, promoting and appreciating the music of J.S. Bach. Our values focus on community, collaboration and excellence. BSM strives to build knowledge, community and respect among musicians (professional and amateur), audiences, students, and partner organizations.
The Bach Society of Minnesota (BSM) was formed in 1932 at the University of Minnesota by students wanting to sing the works of J. S. Bach. The popularity of this activity led to the presentation of annual Bach Festivals on the campus. Ultimately, the chorus embraced nonuniversity singers and formed an independent musical society: The Bach Society of Minnesota. Collaboration with the University continued until 1966, when The Bach Society of Minnesota incorporated as a nonprofit organization in Minneapolis. Over time the artistic leadership passed from the University to the broader Minnesota artistic community, and for 85 years, BSM has been a prominent member of the cultural community of Twin Cities and Minnesota.
