Auditions for Bach Society Chorus
The Bach Society of Minnesota occasionally uses a full choir (similar in size to what Bach would have known; less than 20 singers). The 2010/11 season includes one concert for the choir. Each section will have two paid professionals. The remainder of the sections will consist of volunteers. We've already held auditions for the spring. There are a few positions still available. If you're interested in still auditioning, please fill out the form below. We'll respond and set up a time. Below are the details. Concert and rehearsal dates are below.
There will be minimal but sufficient rehearsals before each concert. All singers will be sent music ahead of time and will be expected to come to the first rehearsal with all their notes learned. We want to spend time on music, not notes. Performance pitch will be A=415 (one half step lower than modern pitch). Auditions may be done at A=440. Works will be sung in their original language; mostly German. Rehearsals will be held at Olivet Congregational Church in St. Paul. |

Volunteer Positions
Please prepare two works of differing character. At least one of the works should be from the Baroque and one in German. Though less desirable, it is acceptable to prepare your part of a choral work and sing that instead of solo repertoire. I need to know you can read music, learn your own part, and are familiar with singing in German. Feel free to contact us with any questions. |
Professional Positions
We're looking to fill at least one paid position (two if budget allows) in each section: SATB. Professional singers will perform the solo arias and recitatives as well as any small group sections of larger works at the concerts.
For your audition please prepare two works; one faster piece and one slower piece with at least one of those pieces from the Baroque and paired with a recitative. One of the pieces should be in German. |
