Auditions for Bach Society Chorus
The Bach Society of Minnesota occasionally uses a full choir (similar in size to what Bach would have known; less than 20 singers). This season two of our concerts will use the choir extensively. Each section will have one paid professional. The remainder of the sections will consist of volunteers. There are presentlya few remaining spots. If you're interested in auditioning, please contact us and we'll set up a time for you. Below are the details. Please check your calendar against the performance/rehearsal schedule listed below. We are willing to be slightly flexible with regard to one or maybe two absences from rehearsals. But in general we need everyone every time. Please fill out the form below and we'll contact you with specific audition times. If you'd like more information on the music to be sung, click on "Concerts" above.
There will be minimal but sufficient rehearsals before each concert. All singers will be sent music ahead of time and will be expected to come to the first rehearsal with all their notes learned. We want to spend time on music, not notes. Performance pitch will be A=415 (one half step lower than modern pitch). Auditions may be done at A=440. Works will be sung in their original language; mostly German. Rehearsals will be held in the churches where the concerts are as well as at Olivet Congregational Church in St. Paul.

Volunteer Positions
We're looking to fill approximately 16 volunteer positions. No solos will be required of volunteers in the concerts.
Please contact us for specific requests for audtion requirements. |
Professional Positions
We're looking to fill 5 paid positions: 2 sopranos, 1 each of alto, tenor and bass. Professional singers will perform the solo arias and recitatives as well as any small group sections of larger works at the concerts.
For your audition please prepare two works; one faster piece and one slower piece with at least one of those pieces from the Baroque and paired with a recitative. One of the pieces should be in German. |
