Love Bach Cantatas?
Do you sing or play an instrument?
Want to sing or play a cantata yourself?
The Bach Society of Minnesota invites you to a unique day of do-it-yourself music making. Come to learn and perform a Bach cantata; enjoy the company of other music lovers (not to mention a delicious lunch); perform the cantata and go home knowing you’ve done something beautiful, and made some new friends, too.
Performances for both workshops listed below begin at 3:00 pm in the sanctuary of University Lutheran Church of Hope, Minneapolis. They are free and open to the public.
Dates and cantatas numbers are below. To register click the Register Now button to the left.

The workshops work like this.
Arrive at University Lutheran Church of Hope in Minneapolis at 9:15 to register, spend the morning rehearsing, have lunch, rehearse a bit more, enjoy a short break before the concert, and perform the cantata. Every effort is made to keep everyone busy. But there will be a few breaks during the day while various movements are rehearsed.
All musicians are welcome but these events are aimed at the many singers and instrumentalists who have studied and practice but don't sing/play professionally. Participants must be able to read music well. The Bach Society's Artistic Director (Paul Boehnke) will be conducting.
Within the cantata there are opportunities for soloists, both vocal and instrumental. If you're interested in being considered for a solo, let us know on the registration form and provide at least one reference of someone who knows your singing/playing. The director will make decisions regarding soloists based on these references. Music will be available a month before the workshop. Please come well prepared. Rehearsal times for recitatives and arias will be very limited.
Music is available ahead of time on two different websites, both for free. Vocal scores with a piano reduction of the orchestra are available at bach-cantatas.com. Click on "scores" and find the cantata number. You may then download a PDF of the music. Instrumentalists or those wishing a full score can download a volume of the Bach Gesellschaft edition of Bach's complete works also in PDF format. This work is now in the public domain. Links to both of these sites are found on the registration page. Information about BWV number (bach-cantatas.com) or the volume number and page number (full score) are listed by each date.
You must register online. The fee for the day is $40 (includes lunch). Payment is made through Paypal with a credit card. If you need to cancel after registering, you may do so by two weeks prior to the workshop to receive a full refund. Just let us know on the form on the Contact page. After the two-week date no refund will be available. If you have any further questions, click on the "Contact" button above and send us your questions. We'll respond as quickly as we can.
